Turkish authorities have canceled large scale ceremonies to commemorate the 105th anniversary of the commencement of the land battles in Gallipoli, due to measures taken against the Covid-19 pandemic. Instead a major event, a small wreath laying ceremony was held at the Turkish Martyrs’ Memorial at the tip of the Gallipoli peninsula. The ceremony was attended by Orhan Tavlı, Governor of Çanakkale; Gen. Zekai Aksakallı, Commander of II Corps, İsmail Kaşdemir, Head of Gallipoli Historic Site, as well as a small number of mounted units. Prayers were made for the souls of the martyrs and gravestones were decorated with cloves.
